According to the IARP (International Association of Reiki Professionals), Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing. Reiki is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings. Reiki energy healing, in particular, makes Dr. (Mehmet) Oz’s list of effective medical alternatives that boost overall health and wellbeing. Why? Put simply, its ability to re-balance bodily and cognitive systems serves as not only an instant potential pain reliever but also a long-term preventive therapy. Even while acknowledging the limitations of clinical research, many doctors grant that Reiki has vast potential. In an interview with O, The Oprah Magazine, Dr. Erin Olivo, the former director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Columbia University, notes that Reiki may be helpful for heart conditions, stress-related symptoms, and more.
In 2014, An article in the Washington Post, ‘Reiki Goes Mainstream: Spiritual Touch Practice Now Commonplace in Hospitals’, states “More than 60 U.S. hospitals have adopted Reiki as part of patient services, according to a UCLA study, and Reiki education is offered at 800 hospitals.” Since then, the numbers have continued to grow. Reiki is one of many types of alternate or complementary medical approaches used for therapeutic benefit around the world, and is one of the fastest growing forms of Energy-Based Medicine.
“Jan 22, 2014 is a day I will never forget – It was the day I learned that I had stage 3 breast cancer. It was an extremely aggressive type and fairly rare. I knew it was bad, because my doctor called on a Saturday to tell me I had an appt. on Monday with an oncologist. My Reiki Master, Maureen Donohue came with me to that appointment and many after it. For over a year, she was with me, through the chemotherapy, the surgery and the radiation. Her care and proactive treatment is the reason my medical treatment was such a great success. My recovery from the surgery was twice as fast as the average patient. My rebound from Chemotherapy happened within 2 – 3 days after treatment, and considering I was taking the maximum dose of that poison that is extremely impressive. It allowed me to continue working the week and half between treatments. My pain levels after reiki and with pretreatment reiki were 1/2 to 3/4 less than that average person taking the doses of chemotherapy and radiation that I took. I am still taking an oral chemotherapy and I still get reiki to help relieve the symptoms … I can’t thank Maureen enough for the relief and healing I receive with every visit. If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer I STRONGLY urge you to seek treatment with Maureen, it will save you a year or more of pain and suffering!!! Thanks Maureen for all you have done for me!”
